Investment overview

What investment choices do I have?

As a DC member, and depending on how involved you want to be with managing your investments, you can choose from three investment approaches offered by Sun Life:

  • Do it for me
  • Help me do it
  • Do it myself

See pages 5 to 9 of the my Investments guide for information about these approaches.

The key to success is to invest early and regularly, track your investments and make adjustments as required.

Your investment needs and your tolerance to risk may change over the course of your career. It is your responsibility to use the information provided here and on the Sun Life website to make informed choices.

You may want to discuss your choices with a financial planner, who can help you create and implement a plan that meets your needs. Read Financial Consultation for more information. You are responsible for any costs associated with seeking such advice.

How can I find out what investment choices are right for me?

To find out what investment options are right for you, go to mysunlife.ca. It has tools and information to help you determine your investor profile and the investment strategy that suites you best. It contains detailed information about the investment funds available for you, including their historical returns. Visit my financial centre > accounts > investment performance. You may also refer to pages 15 – 17 of my Investments Guide for information on the Morningstar® reports and how to use them. The Morningstar® reports provide important information and analysis about your investments.

Can I change my investment choices?

You can change your investment options as your needs change. For example, the funds you might choose to invest in when you are in your twenties would not necessarily be those you choose when you are in your fifties.

mysunlife.ca contains detailed information about the investment funds available, including their historical returns. Visit my financial centre > accounts > investment performance.

How often should I review my investment choices?

Review your investment choices and complete the risk profile questionnaire regularly, at least once per year, to make sure your investments match your retirement goals.

The key to success is to invest early and regularly, track your investments and make adjustments as required.

How do I keep track of my investments?

You will receive a personalized account statement from Sun Life Financial twice a year, in January and July. Use it to monitor your investments and savings.

You can also visit mysunlife.ca to view your statements online.
